Cast Members from SGA to Appear on SGU!

(Excerpt from Joseph Mallozzi's Blog)

"......producer John G. Lenic that the deals have been closed on those Atlantis alums, we can now move forward on the script, secure in the knowledge that both extra-special guest stars will actually be on hand to say the dialogue written for specifically for them. Great news for fans of the old series. There was a reluctance to move ahead with an SGA crossover, particularly on my part, because the feeling was it would step on the timing of the SGA movie, Stargate: Extinction, the events of which directly proceed the Atlantis series finale, Enemy at the Gate. But given the delay on the movie front and the ideal premise pitched out by Remi Aubuchon and Brad Wright, it was decided to go ahead with the crossover. Not a big deal, but it will require some changes to the Stargate: Extinction timeline which, in turn, will beg a host of questions, some of which will be answered in episode #15, some of which won’t…at least not right away......"

Stargate Universe:

Elyse Levesque Gets Scurvy!

(excerpt)

Elyse joked that she gets scurvy when she spends such a long period of time indoors, filming her character Chloe reports Digital Spy.

"Day in, day out being in here is a lot to take," she said. "I start to get scurvy, I think. I need to go outside and get replenished, get my vitamins!"

It's not always a shut-in life, and according to Elyse everyone gets a little excited when they have to go on location for an episode.

"It's fun actually," she said. "It's like a field trip for all of us when we get to go on location. We all plan it and we all come out with our shorts and our boots and we're all so excited to go out and have fun. Some people like Jamil [Walker Smith] end up getting lost because they go on nature hikes during lunch. No, but it's fun."

Source:
http://sky1.sky.com/

(This is INCREDIBLE, especially considering Joseph Mallozzi’s repeated posts with regard to food and fine dining! Don’t they feed the cast anymore?)

Scurvy is a disease resulting from a deficiency of vitamin C, which is required for the synthesis of collagen in humans. The chemical name for vitamin C, ascorbic acid, is derived from the Latin name of scurvy, scorbutus, which also provides the adjective scorbutic ("of, characterized by or having to do with scurvy"). Scurvy leads to the formation of spots on the skin, spongy gums, and bleeding from the mucous membranes. The spots are most abundant on the thighs and legs, and a person with the ailment looks pale, feels depressed, and is partially immobilized. In advanced scurvy there are open, suppurating wounds and loss of teeth.

Scurvy was at one time common among sailors, pirates and others aboard ships at sea longer than perishable fruits and vegetables could be stored (subsisting instead only on cured and salted meats and dried grains) and by soldiers similarly separated from these foods for extended periods.

Corin Nemec and Mitch Pileggi head to Supernatural

(excerpt)

Corin Nemec will play Christian Campbell, a cousin of lead characters Sam and Dean Winchester. The character is described in casting documents as “capable, calm under pressure, and very good at his job.”
Mitch Pileggi played the Winchester’s grandfather, Samuel Campbell, in a previous episode. How he’ll be recurring is up to those clever writers, seeing as how the character is long-dead in the Supernatural universe.

Stephen Hawking proclaims:
'Time travel will exist'
(excerpt)

‘However, Hawking thinks we will never actually be able to use these wormholes for time travel, or any other travel for that matter - which will come as a great disappointment to fans of series ranging from Star Trek to Stargate. The reason is that naturally occurring wormholes are far too tiny and short-lived. Even if we could somehow harness one and expand it so that it was large enough for a person to walk into, Hawking thinks the radiation feedback would collapse it instantly. So travel backward through time is theoretically possible at one level, but almost certainly impossible for human beings.’

Richard Dean Anderson To Recur On New USA Series

What happens when you combine bicarbonate of soda, a wad of chewing gum, white vinegar, and a makeshift fuse fashioned from a Marlboro Light? You get Richard Dean Anderson guest-starring on the upcoming USA Network series`Facing Kate.'

Fancast has learned exclusively that the star of yes, MacGyver, as well as`Stargate SG-1` will appear on at least five episodes of the fall series, which stars the totally gorgeous Sarah Shahi ('Life') as Kate Reed, a top-flight litigator who leaves her firm to become a mediator. Anderson's `Facing Kate' role is that of David Smith, a charismatic but secretive man who enters Kate's life shortly after the death of her father. In short order, it is revealed that David has deeper connections to the Reed family. Earlier this month, Anderson reprised his role of `SG-1's Jack O'Neill onSyfy's `Stargate Universe.' Shahi's `Facing Kate' costars include Michael Trucco ('Battlestar Galactica'), Virginia Williams ('Monarch Cove') and Baron Vaughn ('The Awkward Comedy Show'). Production began June 16 in Vancouver.

Robert C. Cooper is leaving the Stargate Franchise!

'Robert

Robert C. Cooper directs the penulimate episode of Stargate Atlantis, "Vegas."

Following this weekend’s news that long-time Stargate writer, producer, and director Robert C. Cooper will leave the franchise after his appearance at Comic-Con next month (story), we contacted him to find out just why he’s made the decision, what Stargate has meant to him — and what he plans to do next. First things first: Cooper clarified that, at least for the remainder of SGU Season Two, he won’t be entirely absent.

“I’m not leaving completely, actually just stepping back to more of a consulting role for the end of this season,” he said. “However, my credit will remain Executive Producer. We’ve already developed most of Season Two and I feel very confident leaving the show in good hands.” In addition to the already filmed “Aftermath” and “Malice,” he told us: “I will be writing one more episode for late Season Two. as well as giving notes on scripts, cuts and mixes. The guys won’t be getting rid of me that easily. It just might be a little easier to ignore me.”

So why is Cooper calling it quits — especially now, after Stargate Universe was supposed to give the writers a different kind of show to work on? “To be honest this has been a very difficult decision,” he said. “I love Universe as a show and working with this cast and crew has been the best experience of my career thus far. However, it’s been a long time working on one franchise and a number of factors have contributed to my feeling that it’s time to move on.”

Cooper with actor Joe Flanigan, at the New Mexico location shoot for "Vegas"

Cooper said that he isn’t being lured away by another project that is already lined up, but will take advantage of a break to make some decisions about the future of his career — be it in writing, producing, or doing more directing. “My head has been so full of Stargate for so long I’m really going to need some time to figure out exactly what I want to do next,” he said.

It would be hard to over-estimate Cooper’s contribution to the fabric of this franchise, which spans all of Stargate’s 14 years of production, 17 seasons (including the unaired second season of Universe), and two DVD movies — including The Ark of Truth, which Cooper wrote and directed. He began as a writer and story editor in the first year of Stargate SG-1, and went on to run that show and to create Stargate Atlantis and Stargate Universe with Brad Wright. So it’s no surprise that Stargate and its faces leave an indelible mark on Cooper, as well. “It’s been almost my entire career,” he told GateWorld. “It’s meant the world to me. So has the support of the fans, you and your site.

Some highlights looking back would have to include ‘200′ and the party that went with it; ‘Unending,’ as much for the experience as the final product; ‘Vegas’ because of Vegas; ‘Time,’ one of the most challenging and yet smooth and easy shoots I’ve ever been a part of — the cast was amazing; and most recently, ‘Malice’ in New Mexico. “I can’t really say directing Robert Carlyle ['Nicholas Rush'] is a privilege because it’s not so much directing as it is just getting to watch a great performance up close.”

Rob on the set of his 2008 movie Stargate: The Ark of Truth

Cooper added that his decision is not the result of any conflict with the network or the studio. “I feel lucky to call Charles Cohen at MGM a friend,” he said. “He has never been anything but a whole-hearted supporter of myself and everything Stargate. And I owe a great deal to the support and confidence from everyone over at Syfy including Mark Stern, Dave Howe, Tom Vitale, and the always awesome Erika Kennair.”

Whatever projects await the multi-talented writer, producer, and director in the years ahead, Cooper has cut his teeth and built his career on that Ancient portal to other worlds. And he isn’t leaving Stargate with the firm intention of never coming back. “I keep telling people this is not good-bye,” he said. “In fact, I can’t rule out returning to Stargate in the future.”

(Personally, I salute Mr. Cooper for his good taste and for realizing that SGU is sinking the Stargate franchise ship….it's better to get out now).

Stargate's David Hewlett as Grand Marshal of Parade!

David Hewlett Appearance
in Point Roberts, WA

David Hewlett (Rodney McKay) will be appearing in Point Roberts, WA, on July 4th as Grand Marshal of their parade.

See http://www.allpointbulletin.com/front_page8.html for details on the parade. He will also be signing autographs and taking a picture with his fan club, the Vancouver Stargate Meetup, of which I am the proud organizer, afterwards. Point Roberts is a peninsula belonging to the US, which can only be accessed through Canada. David Hewlett owns a house there and lived there while filming Stargate Atlantis. From the States, you need a passport and have to get through two borders to get there. From Canada, you need a passport but only have to cross one border. The lines to get across will probably be pretty long that day - especially since I'm spreading the word far and wide. Please check our group out at http://www.meetup.com/Vancouver-Stargate-Fan-Club/

New Recurring Cast Member on Stargate Universe!

According to Joseph Mallozzi in his highly popular blog, actress Jennifer Spence has been cast as a new recurring cast member, Dr. Lisa Park, on Stargate Universe. Hired initially for just the pilot, the actress apparently made such impression that her character is now being developed more fully. Here it is in his own words:

"Speaking of which – actress Jennifer Spence plays the role of Dr. Lisa Park in Stargate Universe, a character who has developed quite nicely since the pilot. Here’s a classic case of a supporting player who, over the course of several episodes, catches the attention of the writer/producers on the basis of an impressive initial performance. Based on that initial performance, the actor is given more to do – and hits it out of the park, which gives rise to more interest and meatier scenes. Jennifer‘s growing role on SG:U is just one example of the many such instances I‘m seeing develop as we make our way past the season one midway mark."
